Tomorrow is Career Day at Westfall Elementary! As we gear up for an exciting day, we would like to share some important information with families. The morning car rider drop-off will be out front by the kindergarten/1st-grade wing. See map for details. Afternoon car rider pick-up will not be affected.
Please note: Some of our presenters on Career Day are First Responders and Emergency Medical Personnel, and these vehicles will be present on campus during student drop-off. Please do not be alarmed if you see an emergency medical vehicle on campus tomorrow.
We're looking forward to a fun day of exploring future career possibilities!

Mrs. Wippel’s second-grade students have had an exciting and productive semester filled with reading, writing, and creative thinking. They’ve explored traditional literature, chapter books, and poetry while learning strategies to better understand and enjoy what they read. In writing, students practiced expressing their opinions through opinion pieces and experimented with poetic techniques to create their own poems.
Today, they held a classroom celebration where families and visitors had the opportunity to witness everything their students had learned. The creativity on display was a true reflection of all their hard work! Great job, Mustangs!

Mrs. Woods’ second-grade students worked hard researching and illustrating their animal research projects. Today, they invited staff and family members to their classroom for a gallery walk to proudly share what they learned. We think they did a great job!

Mrs. Brandstetter’s second-grade class has officially become published authors! With the help of long-term substitute Miss Nunemaker and support from Ms. Robson, students brought their imaginations to life in a storybook titled “Our Book of Magical Places.” Each page showcases their creativity, teamwork, and storytelling talents! Congratulations to these young authors—you’ve created something truly special!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Our Mustang Buddies showed their appreciation to all the wonderful teachers at Westfall by creating a beautiful collage! We agree... our teachers are the best--hands down!

Our 2024-2025 WMS Students of the Month recently visited Westfall Elementary to share their experiences and answer questions from our 5th graders. This helped ease their worries about the upcoming transition to middle school this fall. We appreciate their leadership and commitment to supporting younger students as they take this important next step.

Last week, our second-grade students enjoyed a fun field trip to Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs. The trip introduced them to the world of dairy farming.
They began their visit with an educational “MOOvie” at The Dairy Tale Theatre, followed by a wagon ride around the farm. Students had the opportunity to feed goats in the livestock petting barn, and they were especially excited to meet and milk “Jenny,” the farm’s model Jersey cow.
To wrap up the day, everyone enjoyed a scoop of Young’s famous homemade ice cream. It was a fun, hands-on learning experience that brought the classroom to life in the best way.
Thank you to Young’s Jersey Dairy for providing such an engaging and educational day for our students.

Westfall Elementary recently held a Kindergarten Music Showcase, led by Miss Wynkoop. This special event was designed to give parents, friends, and community members a closer look at what happens during a typical kindergarten music class.
Guests had the opportunity to watch Miss Wynkoop guide her students through several activities, each highlighting different learning styles and musical concepts. Thank you to all the families who joined us for this wonderful celebration of creativity, education, and the joy of learning through music.

Our fifth-grade students recently explored the work of contemporary artist Andy Burgess, drawing inspiration from his vibrant collages created while living in New York City. Burgess is known for artwork that captures iconic landmarks and scenes from his community.
Inspired by this approach, artists in Miss Marshall’s art class reflected on the places and features that make our own community special and incorporated them into their final project.
Rather than using glue, students challenged themselves by sewing their collages—a technique that not only adds texture and depth to their artwork but also teaches them a lifelong skill. Miss Marshall taught them that sewing can be both creative and practical, offering a way to repair and restore items rather than replace them.
The first photo is an example of Andy Burgess’s work, and the second is that of our Mustang artists. Their collage showcases several beloved spots around town. We encourage you to take a closer look and see how many you can recognize!
